The Planning Begins…

The wedding planning is now underway! My mom arrived in Colorado on Friday afternoon for our first weekend of venue visits. We had a fun family night with Kelly, Nate, the girls and Mike’s parents. Wedding talk was in full swing with plenty of wine as well.

Saturday was an early day–the alarm went off at 6:45 a.m. so we could fit in three showers before our trek to Estes Park. After a much-needed Starbucks run we braved the cold wind and windy roads to Estes. It was beautiful up there because everything is still covered in snow. Our first stop was an amazing mountain chateau with breathtaking views of the mountains and meadows of Rocky Mountain National Park. I have to say, listening to all the “options” and “setup” possibilities made my head spin…at some points of our tour I wasn’t even really listening because I was completely overwhelmed. That said, Mike and my mom were obviously much calmer than me and both fell in love with it right away.

We spent a few more hours in Estes after the chateau site visit to show my mom main street and drive by a few other potential venues–many of which were dark and musty log cabin style spaces that I just can’t picture for the big day. :)

After Estes we drove to Boulder for a site tour of the St. Julien. It’s a beautiful hotel with amazing views of the Flatirons. By this point I was completely torn between Estes and Boulder, and Mike’s eyes were glazing over from talk of linens, tables and band vs. DJs. It was time for beer…which he enjoyed in the St. Julien lobby while I finally got my much-needed glass of champagne.

So, we’ve got some big decisions to make in the coming days because believe it or not–sites are already booking well into May and June of next year! Today and tomorrow will be filled with my mother, an organized Excel genius, crunching many numbers to see what will really work.

Stay tuned for the big date/venue announcement!

The Final Piece of the Puzzle

It’s official! Beginning May 1st we’ll be out of Nate and Kelly’s hair and living in a cute little Highlands duplex.

The final piece of the “moving to Denver” puzzle fell into place last Saturday when Mike and I stumbled upon a gem of a duplex in our favorite part of the Highlands. My favorite aspects of the duplex are the backyard, exposed brick wall in the living room and the fact that we can get a dog! I realize dogs are a huge responsibility and expense (blah blah), but I cannot go another year without a furry companion. Know of anyone with puppies?

I promise to post pictures once our humble abode is in order. Until then, we’re enjoying every second with Nate, Kelly and the girls–who by the way just started walking in time for us to move out. Kelly is less than thrilled…so we better baby proof our house ASAP.

Falling Into Place

It’s funny how life just starts to fall into place sometimes, and I am trying to remember to enjoy each moment and not take a single good fortune for granted. Some updates…

The Engagement
Being engaged is fantastic. I am finally allowed to buy those weddings magazine that stare me down in the checkout aisle, and suddenly getting manicures is an approved expense (ok, I made that part up). Mike and I enjoy saying the word fiance and try to say it in a funny accent at least once a day. The official wedding planning will kick off at the end of April when my mom comes out to look at two venues with us. I won’t reveal the exact locations just yet, but one is in Estes Park and the other is in Boulder!

New Job…
Lucky. That’s how I feel everyday about being invited to join the smart, talented and incredibly welcoming team at GroundFloor Media. I am seven days deep and know that I have found a “home” for a very long time. I am diving head-first into my new accounts and am so excited for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

House Hunting…
To be fair, this hasn’t fallen into place just yet but I know our perfect Highlands home is out there somewhere. I’ve started to schedule showings and am just trying to find a place that isn’t a total dive, but that also allows us to save money so we can hopefully buy a house in the next year or two! If you know of a 2BD rental in the area let me know!

Masters Program…
I am not going back to school, but yesterday Mike received the extremely exciting news that he has been accepted to CU Denver for the Urban Planning and Regional Development masters program. While his reaction over the phone left something to be desired (he’s in SD right now), I am a seriously proud fiance (insert English accent). Personally, I think Mike is one of the most brilliant people I know and believe this will be an amazing profession for him to pursue.

In other news, Caroline and Sophia are literally sprouting up like beanstalks before our very eyes. Between trying to walk and babbling all about their day when I get home, I definitely didn’t realize how much I would miss being around them all day until I went back to work. I’ll have to arrange for a weekly dinner somehow once we move out…more than a week away from them doesn’t seem possible!

Will keep you posted on the venue hunting for the big day!

xoxo
