My New Ride!

Move to Colorado. Get engaged. Start a new job. Adopt a puppy. Move into a new place. One might ask, “what’s left for Lex to take on this year?”

Join Subaru Nation of course!!

Yes, I am officially the proud owner of a beautiful dark gray 2011 Subaru Outback. I loved my Mazda 3 but when we moved back to Colo. I vowed not to spend more than one winter in a car without AWD. I hate driving in snow and on ice and even though AWD doesn’t offer full-proof protection from slippery roads, it is a serious improvement and makes me feel a ton safer.

My favorite features may be the back up camera and bluetooth phone sync capabilities, but when I asked Mike what he liked about the Outback he said, “your safety.” Actual translation? He doesn’t have to hear me moan and complain all winter about driving in the snow.

Why else did I trade in a perfectly reliable 2007 Mazda 3? One word…Kona! He is getting bigger every day (50 lbs to be exact…and the vet is “predicting” 80 lbs) and I really wanted to have a car that will fit him better. He will be riding in the “way” back just as soon as I feel he’s ready to be in the car – I don’t want to ruin that new car goodness just yet!

The Outback is a lot bigger than anything I’ve ever driven so I plan on parking in far away end spots for quite some time. I may even attempt to parallel park it before the end of this year, but we’ll just have to wait and see.

She still needs a name. Any ideas?

Wedding Bells: Updates from wedding planning central

Planning our wedding, aside from a few initial venue meltdowns, has really been a breeze. Meet with vendors, make a decision! It’s really that simple. I personally see no need to drag out decisions for months and months when we have an engagement to enjoy, jobs to do, a puppy to train, and many hiking trails to explore (well, we haven’t been so great on that last one).

Progress to date….
Venue and date – Check!
Photographer – Check!
Florist – Check!
Band – Check!
Wedding AND bridesmaid dresses – Check!
Officiant – Check!
*Groom – Check! :)

Ok, so we’re really ahead of the game but it feels incredible because we’ve snatched up some fabulous vendors that I know will be booked up soon. I am obsessed with our florist, Plum Sage, and cannot wait to work with our photographers, Jody & Zach Zorn. Both come highly recommended and their portfolios are stunning. Our band…well let’s just say no one will be able to avoid the dance floor. Amazing!

Mike has been a good sport through many meetings and a few too many “what do you think of this idea” questions. His eyes rarely glaze over and sometimes I “think” he might be having some fun too. Next up are Save the Dates and our engagement shoot! We are planning to take the pictures in Boulder this fall, hopefully timed right with the leaves changing.

Any and all planning tips are always welcomed!
