It’s fitting that today’s very short post is late. Today’s theme is the phrase, “we’re not as young as we used to be.” We’re exhausted. This weekend we were up in Boulder for the wedding of Mike’s best friend since childhood. Dozens of our friends from San Diego, San Francisco, NYC and beyond all came to town for the celebration. And celebrate we did.
Following big nights out on Friday and Saturday, everyone moved slower than our college days — complaining of more headaches and other drinking related aches and pains. That 1 a.m. tequila shot? Yeah, not a good idea anymore.
I have finally learned to stick to a few key tricks to try and avoid the dreaded all-day hangover. Tons of water and sticking to just one type of alcohol helps tremendously. I refuse 99% of shots offered to me and no longer feel like I have to have a drink in my hands at all times when in a bar. My best friend Kimbra also helped me realize that coffee in the morning can actually make things much worse. That took me a long time to believe.
I wouldn’t trade these weekends for anything but they also suck the life out of me. I guess that’s to be expected as I settle into my 30′s?!

I better be in the 1% shot category!
