I love Etsy. I love shopping local. So, I get super excited when I can shop local on Etsy and support passionate and talented small business owners in my own backyard!
Just a few weeks after Caden was born I received a sweet email from Katie of the Powder & Jade jewelry shop on Etsy (based just up the road in Boulder, Colo.). Powder & Jade was created in 2013 by a husband and wife team who first started making jewelry in college as a hobby. Katie generously offered to send me a piece of my choice in order to let my readers know more about their unique and very affordable items just in time for holiday shopping.
To be completely honest, I normally politely decline offers to review items on my blog because I simply do not have a lot of free time but even more so, I have to really like something to review it as Lex & learn has never, and will never be, a revolving door of endorsements.
But Katie’s note came at the perfect time. I had been struggling with wanting to buy myself something affordable yet cute to mark Caden’s arrival. Rylan and I share July birthdays which means I have numerous ruby jewelry pieces that remind me of him. With Caden’s birthday being in October, I had yet to find anything opal that I love and had not pulled the trigger on a few Scorpio pieces I had been eyeing.
I immediately was drawn to the dainty and understated tiny gold initial necklace that would allow me to wear ‘R’ and ‘C’ in honor of my boys.
My necklace arrived in no time and I have barely taken off since ripping open the package. I rotate between a small handful of necklaces each week that have a tremendous amount of sentimental value and this style looks especially great for casual looks.
Further, I think this necklace, and most everything in the Powder & Jade shop, makes a thoughtful and special gift. As a new mom in particular, people are endlessly generous with gifts for the new baby. But it’s also really fun to be surprised with a small trinket, like this necklace, when it’s hard to justify buying anything for yourself amidst the piling bills associated with diapers, wipes, childcare…and so on. Mother’s Day, bridesmaids, a simple thank you…there are so many cute options in their shop.
I want to extend a huge thank you to Katie and her small team for thinking of me and inviting me to review the shop. I absolutely love my necklace and look forward to supporting their business for future gift-giving and #treatyourself needs in the future!
