Pin of the Week: Truth

This picture says it all. Mike and I are both super busy at work and I have little motivation to clean past the bathroom. I cannot stand a dirty bathroom of any kind.

The basement facelift is moving forward but at a slow pace since Mike is tackling it solo at night and on weekends. I admire his after-hours DIY work ethic but wish some extra cash would magically appear in our saving account so we could just hire it all out. All of our furniture has been moved out of the TV room so the rest of the basement is a disaster. Our gigantic TV is now temporarily in our room and I swear I might have a seizure from how big/close the screen is to our bed.

I am keeping a smile on my face and not inviting anyone over to our house until this is done.

Please pardon our mess, my continued lack of blogging and a general absence from social media. For the first time in years, chronicling every moment on Facebook, the blog and Twitter is not top-of-mind.

Pin of the Week: A Healthier Slice

Cauliflower pizza crust? The pizza-lover in me is quite intrigued. Mother Thyme is a gorgeous blog and I was thrilled to stumble upon it via this pin earlier in the week. When I get brave enough to give this a try, you will all be the first to learn about the taste test results. Mike may need some convincing first!

Pin of the Week: A Splurge

I really want a leather jacket this fall/winter. A high-quality leather jacket isn’t in the cards right now but Pinterest lets me play “make believe” with finds like this All Saints beauty. Maybe next year…

If you could splurge on ONE item for your wardrobe this season, what would it be?

Pin of the Week: Cocktail Hour

It’s really hot in Denver and the forecast doesn’t show any relief for the next five days. That’s why summer cocktails, like the blueberry lavender mojito below, are so tempting. Not only is it pretty to look at, I am really into lavender right now ever since destroying a box of lemon and lavender shortbread cookies from Whole Foods a few weeks ago.

I might just have to whip up a batch this weekend when the kids go to bed (not my kids…Mike and I are babysitting our twin nieces and nephew from Saturday morning to Sunday evening. Wish us luck!).

Happy weekend friends!

Pin of the Week: Healthier Creamed Corn

Summer means enjoying sweet, fresh corn. Lots of it. I really love corn.

Most often we just have it steamed on the cob with a pat of fake butter spread and a bit of salt. Nothing fancy. But when I saw this picture of Mexican Creamed Corn from Whole Living, I knew it must be delicious and healthier. I can’t wait to give it a try soon!

What is your favorite way to enjoy sweet summer corn?

Pin of the Week: Summer Tops

Great summer tops are a dime a dozen. Personally, I have a hard time parting with more than $40 or $50 for a top made of such little material. But this lace top I found while reading my favorite blogs (this one was highlighted on Sacramento Street) on Wednesday night is ethereal. Chic. Sexy yet classic.

I’ve got a major crush.

Friday’s Pin of the Week: Perspective

It wasn’t the worst of weeks. It wasn’t the best of weeks. It was somewhere in between – throwing out some tough moments that were balanced with moments that brought a lot of joy.

On Tuesday, I was particularly grateful when a coworker, telling a story of her own stress about moving, kids, etc., made the comment that was something along the lines of…”but these are all just first world problems.” Meaning, she wasn’t trying to figure out how to get clean water to her kids or wondering where they would sleep at night. Moving to a new home, having access to wonderful doctors for a kid battling ear problems, being busy with a great job — stressful yes, but what lucky reasons to be stressed when you take a step back.

Life, in the “first world,” isn’t always easy, but it is a pretty spectacular place to be if you can get out of your own way just long enough to be grateful. Truly and honestly grateful.

Pin of the Week: We All Scream for Ice Cream

We received an ice cream maker as a wedding present last year and I have to say, there is simply nothing more fun (and decadently delicious) than making ice cream at home. It’s a little discouraging to discover just how bad ice cream is for you – that much heavy cream clearly isn’t healthy – but who cares. I will go to five kettle bell boot camp classes a week if that means being able to enjoy more creamy goodness.

On my list for this summer is to try my hand at homemade ice cream sandwiches. I’ll need a little patience and a lot of time, but I was immediately inspired by these lovelies below (Lemon Almond Coconut Ice Cream Sandwiches courtesy of the beautiful Sacramento Street blog). Maybe I can recruit Mike’s sister Kelly to help me, as she has witnessed my inability to follow a recipe, no matter how simple, correctly from start to finish.

Three cheers for ice cream!

Friday’s Pin of the Week: Fashion

This summer we have two weddings to attend and I am already starting to think about what I am going to wear. One is in Santa Barbara and the other is here in Colorado. I hope to buy a dress that will suit both and am head-over-heels with this simple yet bold design. I am a sucker for one shoulder dresses and this color is stunning.

Better start saving!

Friday’s Pin of the Week: Derby Flair

Our friends have finally convinced us to buy tickets to the Denver Derby Party. It is supposed to pretty rowdy, but we need to do it once right?

So now the hunt begins for a fabulous Derby hat!I love the color scheme of the one below, which I found on Etsy.

Although, the most economical choice may be a trip to Michaels for a hat, some flair and a hot glue gun.
